How Android Automotive works with the 2023 Honda Accord

Last September, Honda announced that it would start using Android Automotive, with the 2023 Accord being the first vehicle to do so.
The 2023 Honda Accord will start hitting dealerships next month (via The Verge) with Android Automotive “standard for the top-tier Accord station wagon.” Automakers can customize the user interface a lot, and Honda seems to have done that.
The Google operating system runs on a vertical 12.3-inch center touchscreen that Honda claims is the largest, with a column of virtual buttons on the left for home, back, assistant, maps, FM radio, and smartphone projection (supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay).
Apps pop up after that, and Honda has placed various status bar icons in the top right corner. This includes notifications, such as when an app is installed. There’s support for “Ok Google” shortcuts, and the available commands let you ask:
With the Google Assistant, users can get the job done without taking their eyes off the road and with their hands on the wheel. Talk to Google, easily call or text a friend, set a reminder, or even change the temperature in your car. Users can also navigate to the next destination or find nearby destinations. For example, Google Assistant allows users to enter a destination on Google Maps using only their voice and the route map will be displayed on the toolbar.
Below that are widgets like an analog clock and audio controls (you can see YouTube Music above). The customizable launcher displays eight icons at once, including Android apps and other vehicle features.
Drivers can also use their favorite media apps to control their media by asking Google to skip to the next track or rewind a podcast with their voice. Google Play allows users to download various third-party apps for music, podcasts, and audiobooks just like on a smartphone.
Other hardware features on the flagship 2023 Accord include a 10.2-inch digital driver’s instrument cluster, a 6-inch head-up display, and 15W Qi wireless charging.
