By default, both Google and Apple start playing music as soon as your phone connects to your Bluetooth car headphones. This is because your phone assumes that you want to start listening to music as soon as you get behind the wheel. However, this may not always be the case.
If you are traveling with friends or family, music can be distracting. Or maybe you just want to listen to a different track than the one that was playing the last time you drove. For these reasons, auto-playing music with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay isn’t always ideal.
Unfortunately, if you have an iPhone, there is no toggle or option by default to stop Apple Music from playing automatically. Instead, you’ll have to stick with the Shortcuts app workaround on your iPhone.
Step 5: If you have selected the Bluetooth option, click the “Select” button next to the device. Select your car’s Bluetooth name from the list of devices.

I’m glad I found this fix because it’s driving me crazy… but it still doesn’t stop my Honda from kicking something out of my iPhone. If I’m lately listening to a book or watching Netflix… it will start playing them, if not, it will play music. This is the dumbest feature a car can have. It’s great if you listen to something when you get in the car, but not when your phone is locked and nothing is on.
Written well, but the USB connection still plays music. Even after pausing the music and then performing the function with Siri, it starts up again. depressing.
